Cross Canada Blog Hop: How to Books

Welcome to the Cross Canada Blog Hop featuring the fabulous How to Books that Close to my Heart offers customers! If you have come from Lucy’s blog then you are on way across our beautiful country! Just read on and then I will lead you to the next blog.

For my project I decided to take the card How-to book, ‘Wishes’ to create a layout. I find the card layouts the perfect fit for single pages and since I only had one photo of my daughter to scrapbook I could only do a single page. Here is the pattern I chose.

Now here is the layout I created using the pattern. I kept it simple and complemented the colours of my daughter’s dance costume (our blushed paper was the perfect fit for this) AND since another blog I follow was doing a challenge to use embossing folders- I added embossing to the squares of cardstock framing the picture. Simple but sweet.

Brae-er Team Blog Hop: Taste of Summer

Welcome to the Brae-er Team Blog Hop! My team is excited to show you the projects we have created using the Taste of Summer Paper that is exclusively available during the month of May (there is even an exclusive stamp set that you can also purchase to go with the paper!) All of this is to celebrate National Scrapbooking Month!

Here is the paper and the stamp set:

So much fun and so many bold colours! I will be sharing projects this month here and on my facebook page that use this paper.  Here is my FAV of the layouts I have created so far!

Taste of summer layout

I was inspired by a layout I saw on pinterest that I knew would look amazing in the bright colours in the Taste of Summer paper. The back side of all the fruit paper has a print and they are so much fun to work with! I created the sun, camera, butterfly, title and title accents using the CTMH artbooking cartridge. All my photos document different fun things my daughter did over the last summer- this was a great way to use up photos that would not have been enough (or told enough of a story) to make a page on their own. I also added a few of our fun accessories- bubbly stickers, puffy glitter stickers and flamingo dots. I LOVE how it all came together!

What would you create with this paper?

Wanderful Summer Memories Layout

wanderful webers summer

Wanderful summer memories… now that spring has arrived I look forward to all the fun things that we do over the summer months. This layout highlights one of them- a trip to Webers for lunch or dinner.

If you ever find yourself driving through Ontario and up Hwy 11 to our beautiful Muskoka region then you will pass right by Webers. I recommend you stop. The lines are long but the burgers are fresh and worth the wait.  Better still is the whole experience of eating on a train! Just pick your car, have a seat and enjoy the food and your family.  My kids love going here for just this reason- and checking out the other train cars on site.

What summer memories are you looking forward to making with your family? Do you have places you visit every summer?

Chalk it Up Layout

first day of grade 5

I love how a one page layout can be just the thing for some tough situations as a scrapbooker. For years I was a devout and faithful two-pager. I just couldn’t imagine not having pages that matched looking back at me from my scrapbook. I even disdained the pages of others who had mismatched pages (in my head only of course). I saw no logic or beauty on their pages and could not wrap my head around why you would even need a one page layout.

Well.. I a happy to say I am converted! I now love the one page layout for a variety of reasons:

  1. They are the answer for the memory that you want to scrapbook but have very few photos for- just use a one pager and let that memory shine!
  2. They are creatively freeing- yes they really are! I don’t know why but I always feel like I can be more creative and risky on a one pager than on a traditional layout.
  3. Great use of the last little bit of papers in a paper pack- you can make them stretch much better on a one pager. Add a piece of cardstock or some PML cards (like in my example) and even scraps can become a beautiful layout.
  4. I feel so very artsy! Every time (and yes this kind of ties in with number two but it was a big ‘aha’ moment for me)- I just love how artsy and creative I feel when creating a one pager!

Now if you like me are suffering and have yet to try the one-pager then I urge you to give it a go- find a layout you love the look of and ‘scraplift’ it or just go for it and try to get in touch with your inner-child crafter who first stumbled across your love of scissors, glue and glitter! I would love to know how it goes!

Disney Aulani Hawaii Layouts

Our trip to the wonderful Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii is fading but thankfully I will have my albums to remind all of us of the fun we had!  I love getting to relive the moments and memories as I create my albums but even better is seeing the reaction of my family when they get to go through the whole album the first time- that will be very soon as I only have two more pages to complete!

Want to see some of what I have so far??

This sunset cruise layout is one of my fave’s- I love how it came together with the Chalk it out Paper and PML cards!

hawaii sea and art

I wish you could see some of these layouts in person- the picture does not always do it justice. The Art and Culture one is a good example- it has a lot of flip flaps on it which is why it is in the protectors. Each photo has a number that corresponds to my journaling – the journaling shares the history behind the piece. The Disney resort is the second largest hold of Hawaiian art! This tour showed us only a small portion and all I can say is WOW!

Cross Canada Easter Blog Hop

Welcome to our Cross Canada Blog Hop where we will be sharing creations inspired by Easter! Have fun ‘hopping’ coast to coast across Canada to see what our whole group has created for you!

My layout was created using the Brushed paper pack.  I added some of our white shimmer trim,  smoothie striped washi, brushed complements and brushed assortment. This paper is not going anywhere until later this summer and it is the PERFECT paper for spring photos (especially Easter!).

This hop was also the perfect reason for me to get some scrapbooking done of my Easter pics- for some reason they have piled up and I have not done any layouts of Easter since my daughter was born (she is almost 4). I think that part of me was waiting for this paper 🙂

Brae-er Team Blog Hop: Get it Before it is Gone!

It is always sad to see an idea book come to a close- especially when it has been FULL of product you have loved (or in this case, that I have LOVED!).  This is where we find ourselves this month as many of the items in our Seasonal Expressions 1 book are no longer available after the end of March….

My team decided to take a positive spin on this sad occasion and celebrate with a blog hop that features some of the pieces that we love best in this book! Celebrate with us and be sure to order any items you see that you love… after all soon they will be gone!

My favourite item in this whole book is 100% the hopscotch paper- I have loved it for so many things! Here is I used it in a Vacation album workshop- 10 beautiful scrapbook pages all created with this beautiful paper! (For more details on the workshop portion please visit my Papercrafting Workshops/Kits tab).

Sketch n Scrap Layout Challenge

This year I want to participate in more blog challenges- with that in mind and a few hours the other day I set out to find some and came across the Sketch n Scrap page– they have a layout and card challenge! I liked what I saw so decided to play along!

Here is my page- the paper is from the Confetti Wishes paper pack.  I added gold sequins and some purple glitter gems left over from an old workshop kit. My title comes from the CTMH cricut Artbooking (the title says endless summer and I just cut off the endless part). I love how it documents our year-end staff party (which is an Amazing Race theme and SO MUCH FUN!)

Hopscotch Layouts

If you are at all like me then you find yourself quickly craving the bright colours of spring- pretty pinks and blues.. not bright enough to be summer colours but just enough to add some needed ‘pretty’ to a very white and black winter.

Well our winter really is only arriving but I already crave these colours so I am very happy that our Seasonal Inspirations Mini book has JUST what I need! Have you seen the beautiful Hopscotch papers??? Or the assortment or complements? YUMMY!

These two layouts were created using the above three items and with some added pink extra thick twine – all available now on my SHOP!

Minnie and Ellery

minnie and ellery layout

This post doesn’t feature much new stuff- the glitter paper, thistle cardstock and a little bit of seaside paper are all that is current- but it does feature the sweetest little girl and her love for Minnie Mouse! The paper was a past special- Dotty for you.  The dots were perfect for a layout all about Minnie. I used the one non-CTMH cartridge I own (I think it is called Mickey and friends) and made Minnie Mouse heads with cute glitter bows!

I mixed it all up to tell the story of my sweet girl and her love of Minnie- I cannot count how many times she has gone to school all dressed up like Minnie Mouse. I love it (even if I seem slightly embarrassed at the time).  I love how she has no idea that most people don’t wear costumes out- she wears it with pride and a big smile!

This year she will also get to meet Minnie Mouse thanks to Close to my Heart- I cannot wait for this moment! I know it will be very special and one that she carries with her for a long time!
